“Fourth of July” long weekend! I love long weekends. I get to spend a lot more time and do fun things with my humans. And, this weekend, they took me to nature parks both on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, we did a 1.5 hour round-trip walk at a reservation park about 20-minute-drive away from home. We went through woods, across some mud, creeks, and up and up on the hills. When we finally arrived at the top of this one rocky hill, my humans went “ahhhh” at the great view of Boston skyline while I enjoyed the breeze and all sorts of smell it brought to me (then I wanted to get going and not linger)

Look, I even found a blue shiny snake skin, and told my humans about it. I also found some fire hydrants that stood in the middle of the woods. They were so out of place that I howled at them super loud. I don’t think it was right for them to be there. Huff!

Flowdog session this morning. Look how I surf and scheme the escape at the same time! I almost succeeded, too!

It’s Tuesday. It’s been two days since we took Kaiju away from his favorite backyard in the whole world. We feel extremely guilty about being back in the city and not having any backyard. So, we decided to take him to one of his favorite parks this evening.

I’m out for a nature walk with my human & his brother. It’s a good Wednesday!

There is this brand-new dog park in the town next to ours. It has some fun features like tunnels, big stone steps, and a raised plank. Of course, Kaiju would not go into the tunnels nor go up on the plank, although he doesn’t mind the stone steps. He also gets nervous about noises coming from the factories nearby during the day, and stays alert which makes it tough for him to really let go and have fun.

So we have been going there late at night when it’s quieter. And since there are no other dogs usually at that time of the day, we have to run around ourselves to get Kaiju excited enough to play. It’s a pain, but serves the purpose when we really don’t want to go too far but want to let him off-leash outside.

We made a trip to this park tonight. Very unfortunately, even though it was late night, there were some big trailer trucks moving about in the adjacent lot. Kaiju was too distracted to even chase us no matter how much we tried. Soon, we were exhausted. He was boring us to tears. So, instead, we decided to try to get him up on the wooden plank…

First, all three of us (Kaiju’s humunkle is visiting) walked up on the plank, stood in the middle of it, and called him cheerfully and repeatedly. Then we tried sitting on it and did the same. Kaiju looked up at us and ran around the plank as if to say “i don’t understand!! what do you want me to do??”. We then tried to meet him half way down on the ramp and lure him with treats. We don’t remember how or when it started, but Kaiju brings his beef tendon chew with him to bed (our bed), every night.

He rarely chews on it. We give him one and it stays intact for a long time, until one day, he decides to consume it. When that happens, it’s usually gone in two or so chewing sessions.

He doesn’t play with it. He doesn’t even look at it throughout the day. Only when we go to bed, he looks for it, and carries it with him onto the bed. Sometimes, he forgets to do it. But, after he settles in on the bed, he remembers. He gets up, goes to the living room, finds it, and brings it back with him.

Then, for rest of the night, the beef tendon is ignored. In the morning, he jumps off the bed without even glancing at it. So we move it back to the living room.

So, we did make it up to Kaiju for the fail yesterday. Well, kind of. We didn’t see any Shibas. We didn’t even see many other dogs for that matter. We did have a lot of beach to ourselves, though. It’s only 40 min from our home. Not too bad! «videos»

Shiba meetup on the beach today was a total bust. We were late (my humans took wrong turns, several times) so we only caught the Shibas leaving the beach. I wasn’t happy there, at the parking lot.

But, my humans walked me from there to the beach anyway, just to make the trip worth while. The whole thing was super short because a storm was approaching. Right when we we got to the water, we saw lightening and heard some roars. Then the rain drops… I had fun anyway. They also promised me that they’d make up for this, tomorrow!
